Myrth Profile: FLIK apprentices
Recently, Myrth has added some interns to the team thanks to our involvement with the female started and run startup called FLIK. We’re so inspired to work with the next generation of female entrepreneurs, who bring incredible skills, vision, and drive to their work. Read on for more about FLIK and about our wonderful apprentices, too.
What is FLIK (Female Laboratory of Innovative Knowledge)?
FLIK is an organization that pairs young, tech-savvy female interns with established (or up-and-coming) entrepreneurs and business women. Here’s how they describe themselves:
Our mission is to advance womxn's economic participation and accelerate womxn-led ventures globally. Female leaders scale their businesses with helping hands, mentor the next generation, and have the opportunity to recruit amazing talent. Apprentices are exposed to the entrepreneurship ecosystem, develop practical skills, and gain the experience they need to narrate their trajectories to success.
TRUSHAA RAMANAN, DIGITAL MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA
Trushaa joined Myrth in August of 2020 to manage all the company’s social media outlets. Her eye for design and color along with her creativity has brought new life to how Myrth is seen out in the world. Trushaa admits that one of the main draws to Myrth was the branding and the sloth! She is a rising senior at International Community School with an interest in information systems, business, and design methodology set to graduate in 2021. Trushaa lives in Washington State, USA.
Emma’s Note: We often forget how young Trushaa is because she is so professional and mature. She has taken full ownership of our Instagram design and posts on top of the other social media postings. She has that lovely balance of taking initiative and working on her own, while still taking guidance and direction. We have seen a marked increase in engagement on our social media platforms and we often get comments on how beautiful our Instagram grid is.
AMELA SEJDIC, CONTENT EDITOR, DIGITAL MARKETING STRATEGIST & SHOPMYRTH BUYER
Amela joined Myrth in September 2020 to take on the enormous task of performing a “glow up” of the Myrth blog and website. Her creativity and innovation shine in this role. Her knowledge of SEO and Content Marketing makes her an asset to the team as we scale and expand! She loves art, music, acting, communicating with other people, and helping others. Living on the West Coast of Canada, Amela will graduate with a BA in Psychology in 2022.
Emma’s Note: Amela is a firecracker. Her acting skills and strong opinions are hard to miss. I call her my Jill of all trades because she takes on new tasks all the time and she does so with gusto. It has also been a joy to watch the myrthiness (yes that’s a word) rub off on her as she takes better care of herself since joining Myrth. Watch out for her guest blogs about drinking water and surviving social distancing.
MARIA SITKOVETS, SOFTWARE ENGINEER & UX DESIGNER
Maria and Emma connected immediately around building tech for good and so Maria joined the team in September of 2020 to build the tech side of Myrth. Approaching the MyMoai progressive web app with a growth mindset, Maria will design and build the app from scratch. Her strengths in software development include Java, Ruby on Rails, and JavaScript, but that didn’t stop her from applying UX design attributes in Figma. Her drive to solve challenging problems and background in the arts means she has lots of ideas and solutions. Maria is studying computer science at York University in the Shopify Dev Degree program and will graduate in 2022. The MyMoai app needed someone like Maria and we are delighted she came on board!
Emma’s Note: There is no doubt in my mind that Maria will go on to do great things. She has the skill and the drive but even more so she has the values and the personal mission to change the world for the better. Her work on the MyMoai app has been wonderful and she just keeps moving forward, regardless of obstacles. She’s such a quick learner and often surprises me with what she has picked up just since the last time we spoke.
